Bollywood’s latest hot property features on the cover page of Filmfare July 2008 edition. For Vidya Balan, this is the third time that she’s become the cover-girl of this popular film magazine. Looking hot and sizzling in her all new glam look, the single-and-contemplating-if-to-mingle , arrived late at the launch of the issue. This time she had the rain gods to blame. Soha Ali Khan in film on sexual politics

Irrfan Khan and Soha Ali Khan have paired up for a film that is meant strictly for adults.

The Anil Sharma movie, titled Dil Kabaddi , is a tale of sexual politics, adultery and extra-marital affairs. Basically, it highlights the lack of loyalty in relationships.

Irrfan’s character in the film is that of a cool executive who isn’t satisfied with his female partner and keeps looking for sexual and emotional gratification elsewhere. It is a full-on promiscuous character with no regrets or apologies.

In fact, this role was initially supposed to be played by Rahul Bose and Irrfan was approached to play a professor. But Irrfan liked the promiscuous character so much that he insisted on playing it. Incidentally, Rahul also liked the character of professor and happily swapped roles with Irrfan.

Irrfan minces no words in saying that the film is “strictly for adults”.

However, the movie will not have much skin show by the lead actress Soha Ali Khan.

“Only the situations in the plot have sexual connotations. There is no skin exposure as such in the film,” says a source.

Her maiden film as an actress - Hum Sey Hai Jahaan bombed at the box office, but then pretty, dark and smart Vishakha Singh is not unduly perturbed by the fate of the film for the simple reason that even before Hum Sey Hai Jahaan was complete, she had bagged two more films - Abhijeet Sengupta's Do Aur Do Paanch and Venkatesh Naidu's Coffee Shop, which are also being readied for an early release.

Born and brought up in Abu Dhabi, Vishakha, who was the cultural captain while she studied in school, is a beauty with brains, having graduated in Business Administration in New Delhi. Vishakha confesses that it was sheer boredom with her internship in a couple of ad agencies that prompted her to try her hands at modeling.

Vishakha continues confessing that her acting stint had actually started right from home when she had lied to her strict father that she wanted to go to Mumbai to do theatre because he was not in favor of letting her act in films.

Vishakha concedes that though it is easy to get offers to act in ad films after giving the auditions, to face the camera and emote and lose one's inhibitions to a blank lens which is just a piece which does not respond to you is quite a tough task.

"Though I did not learn acting by joining any acting academy, I am glad I was able to understand the medium by facing the camera for ad films.

Though as far as acting was concerned, I was 10 when I embarked on a career in acting, today I feel I can rate myself 4 out of 10, " Vishakha quips.

Though Vishakha has not acted in any TV serial till date, she says that all the credit for having made her an actress ought to go to Balaji Telefilms which had auditioned her for a role in their popular serial Kasauti Zindagi Ki.

"I was given a two page long dialogue for the scene in which Prerna loses her son. After I had done the scene, I went on crying and was asked to report for the shoot from the next day.

However I decided that I could not suffer doing such scenes for 25 days every month and politely declined the role of Aparna who ends up marrying Mr Basu, " explains Vishakha.

However, Vishakha says that she does not regret having said no to act in TV serials.

"TV is a very open medium. Touchwood, if my films do not do well at the box office, I am one hundred per cent confident that television is one medium which would still welcome me, with open arms.

I do not mean to look down upon TV. It is just that as of now I want to concentrate all my attention on making a career as an actress in Bollywood, " Vishakha explores her world of hope.

Whether in Hum Sey Hai Jahaan or Do Aur Do Paanch or for that matter Coffee Shop, Vishakha says that she has made it a point not to expose at all, though it is the latest mantra in Bollywood.

"Losing one's inhibitions does not at all mean that one should bare one's clothes but emotions. It is only the director and the script which can convince me as far as agreeing to expose on the screen is concerned, " bold goes the rising star.

What is Vishakha's take on exposure? I ask Viashakha. She shoots back, "I have a lot of pride in me.

When I saw Esha Deol appear in a skimpy bikini in Dhoom, my heart sank, because I realized that I stood no chance of saying no to getting into a bikini, if Esha who is from the film industry had to do it. I am not at all a prude.

Though I had turned down Arjun Sablok's offer to cast me in Niel N Niki in the role in which he had eventually cast Tanisha, because he could not convince me to expose my cleavage almost throughout the film, I'd readily do a lip to lip kissing scene like Rani did in Black if the scene changes the entire narration like it did in Black."

Is she scared of the syndrome of the casting couch? I ask her.

Without batting her eye lids, she replies, "I am not scared at all of the casting couch, because I'd slap the person if someone makes an attempt, though I do not deny that it does exist.

A Telugu film producer told me on my face to sleep with him if I wanted to act in his film, but he was lucky because I had politely walked out, since I was new then, long before I bagged the offer for my first film."

In Do Aur Do Paanch, Vishakha plays a typical tapori girl since the film, in her own admission, is a take off on Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, a comedy action film, which has Salman Khan doing a special appearance though the flick has no love triangle at all.

In Coffee Shop, Vishakha plays the role of a painter. "It is about the struggle of the girl who wants to go to the New York School of Fine Arts. Though in real life, I also dabble with painting as a hobby, I am not a M. F. Hussain in real life, though I could identify with the journey of the character that I am playing in Coffee Shop to a large extent, " Vishakha casts light on her character.

When she met Mashoor Amrohi who has not only played the leading man in Hum Sey Hai Jahaan but also produced, directed, written and choreographed the film, Vishakha says that she could easily gel with him because they belonged to the same age group and there was no communication gap.

"I was relieved to make my debut with a banner which was known to present women in a dignified way", Vishakha quips and adds that it was a big advantage to her that Mashoor, besides being the leading man, was also the director of the film since she did not have to necessarily look tom the director behind the camera.

Inrterestingly Vishakha's name was suggested by the unit of Chak De India after she had been rejected by Shimit Amin when she auditioned for the role eventually played in the film by Vidya Malavade, because Shimit did not find her suitable for the matured character.

Vishakha says that her wish list is to act in films like Black and Cheeni Kum since she is a die-hard fan of Rani Mukerjee, Kajol, Tabu, Vidya Balan and Minissha Lamba ("I like Minisha's choice of films") as far as actresses are concerned though her staunch favorite among the actors is none other than Hrithik Roshan. "I dote on Hrithik Roshan because he is so devoted to his work", she concludes.

She was last seen as a leading lady way back in 2006 when she appeared opposite Shreyas Talpade in Apna Sapna Money Money. The film was a success but Riya Sen was in mood to get into a signing spree.

Waiting patiently for the right roles to come her way, the pretty young girl who has also been seen in successful films like Shaadi No. 1, Plan, Qayamat, Jhankaar Beats and last but not the least Style, has been keeping herself busy by being a part of item songs.

Apparently Riya, who has a cameo role in Hum Phirr Milein Na Milein, felt that the makers only wanted to cash in on her name and popularity to promote the film. This is why she was demanding close to Rs 3 lakh just to promote the film.

Though there hasn't been an official word on this from Riya, the makers have made it clear that they won't bow down to her demands since the film's promotion was planned with an extremely tight budget due to Hum Phirr Milein Na Milein being a small-budget film.

While shooting for the title track of Singh is Kinng , which is being choreographed for Remo Fernandez, she had dance steps that required her to bend forward several times. And this made Katrina too conscious.

Sensing that she was uncomfortable in that particular outfit, Remo tried to assure her that the steps would not look vulgar on-screen. Remo said, “Yes, Katrina was apprehensive while doing a particular sequence. I had to cajole her into it because it was a beautiful dance step.”

Finally, Remo made one of his female assistants, who was dressed in the same outfit, do the exact steps. After seeing that, Katrina gave it a try and it turned out so well, that she repeated it several times.

Young and chirpy actress Ayesha Takia considers Nagesh Kukunoor's 'Dor', a poignant tale of two women, as the path-breaking film of her career. She says after the movie, people started taking her seriously as an actor.

'After 'Dor', viewers showed the confidence that I could play serious roles too and so I was offered roles in films like 'Eight By Ten' and 'Wanted' and many other big movies,' Ayesha told.

Ayesha is on the verge of completing another Kukunoor film titled 'Eight By Ten'.

'Ten days of shooting is left. It also stars Akshay Kumar,' said Ayesha who plays Akshay's wife in the supernatural thriller.

Her next release is 'De Taali', which will be showcased at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards, starting June 6 in Bangkok.

Talking about the film, the dimpled actress said: 'The character is totally in contrast to what I am in actual life. I play Ammu who is a complete tomboy. She is a complete brat and grows up with Aftab Shivdasani and Reitesh Deshmukh. She does what normally guys do.'

Apart from 'De Taali', she has Boney Kapoor's 'Wanted Dead And Alive', which marks southern dancing superstar Prabhu Deva's entry into Hindi films as director.

The film is a remake of Tamil film 'Pokkiri', which was also directed by Prabhu Deva. In the action movie, Ayesha is paired with Salman Khan. Mahesh Manjrekar and Om Puri too feature in key roles.
The actress is also doing Ahmed Khan's film on four children titled 'Pathshala' where she and Shahid Kapur play teachers.

Though 'Tarzan - The Wonder Car', for which she won the best debutant actress award in 2004, was released before 'Socha Na Tha,' Ayesha considers Imtiaz Ali's romantic comedy as her debut film.

She said: ''Socha Na Tha' will always be my first film and close to my heart. 'Tarzan' was an entertaining film but 'Socha Naa Tha' had a lot of space for acting.'

Was she approached for Imtiaz's second film 'Jab We Met'?

'Initially, Bobby and I were supposed to do the film, but the dates did not work out between us. But, I look forward to working with Imtiaz.'

The actress faced the camera for the first time when she was four years old for an ad and later she did quite a few commercials and music videos.

How difficult was it to gain entry into films? 'It was not at all difficult. I did not go looking for work. Imtiaz went through my audition tapes and called me to his office.'

Ayesha feels that making an entry is not at all difficult if one has the talent and is ready to work hard.

So far Ayesha has worked mainly with new directors - does she have a preference for them?

'I don't have any preferences and I cannot afford it. It is just that the offers came from them. And it is always an exciting experience as new directors are always enthusiastic and hard working and give everything for the project as they know that their life depends on the project.'

Did she plan to be an actress as a child?

'I was raised in a normal Gujarati style with all the restrictions and reservations. As far as plans are concerned, I did not have plans to become an actress in my childhood.'

About a favourite co-star, Ayesha said: 'I am not being diplomatic, I enjoyed working with all of them. Also, I am a very professional type of person. I finish my work and go home. I have no favourites, I enjoyed working with all of them.'

Apparently Ayesha makes producers sign a contract on her reservations about intimate and steamy scenes.

She said: 'Yes, I do sign a contract with every producer and mother has nothing to do with it. I have lived life according to my own principles and ideologies and I adhere to it.'

The 23-year-old has done various roles ranging from comedy to serious characters, but prefers romantic movies.

'I would like to do romantic films most and my second preference would be serious roles. Though I am not comfortable with stunts, I would definitely like to do an action film like 'Tomb Raider'.'

She is dating Farhan Azmi and has started a boutique hotel business with him, but has no immediate plans to marry him.

'I want to work and don't have any plans to marry now.'

The movie is an adaptation of a French film, Chaos, and focuses on the distress that upshoots when a young prostitute, unintentionally, intrudes into the life of a modern middle class couple.

Reports add that Ash will be playing the role of a prostitute, who suffers physical and mental torture. The film emphasizes on the struggle that the prostitute has to make for her survival, her resurrection and dignity.

Although the film’s name has not been officially announced since it has first to be adapted for American audiences, reports confirmed both Ash and Meryl as a part of the project.

There’s buzz that Reena Kapoor, lead actress of Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki on SaharaOne, is quitting the serial. Reena, who’s been on the show for the past three years, however, prefers to be noncommittal.

“At the moment it’s too early to comment on this,” she says, when contacted by BT. “Nothing is confirmed, so I can’t really say much.”

One story doing the rounds is that the actress has bagged a good role in a movie and that’s the reason for her decision to opt out of television. However, Reena categorically denies this saying, “That’s not true at all.”
Reena became a household name with this serial. The past three years that she’s been doing this show have been wonderful, she says. “It’s a beautiful journey. Every single day of working has been beautiful. I have enjoyed myself.”
So if this journey had to end would it upset her? “Not really because I know nothing lasts forever. Everything has to come to an end,” she reasons and quickly adds, “Why are we talking about this? I’m still not sure about whether I’m quitting the show or not. As I said it’s too early for me to say anything.”

Work apart, Reena is busy at home. It’s her new house and she is very happy about moving in here. “We bought this place in Goregaon. It feels really nice. We have a lovely view from our house. My husband Karan Nijher and I moved in here a month back,” she says. And does hubby Karan watch her show? “Not really. He doesn’t have the time. And besides he doesn’t really watch TV soaps. But once in a while when he has watched me on screen, he’s appreciated my work,” she smiles.

When I meet Neetu Chandra in sweltering and scorching heat on location in Bhopal where she is shooting for director Gary Grewal’s maiden venture as a director- Khusar Prasad Ka Bhoot in which she has been teamed opposite Randeep Hooda, she is excited about her role in the film. “I play the role of Chabeeli, a woman of loose character in Khusar Prasad Ka Bhoot. What is interesting is the fact that I am the only girl in the entire film. Chabili is liked by all the characters in the film. Everyone in the film tries all the time to hit on me. Thanks to the script, I am now having the opportunity to do a performance oriented role in Khusar Prasad Ka Bhoot. It is my fourth film with Paresh Rawal, with whom I had acted in my very first film Garam Masala”, exclaims an excited Neetu. Neetu is of the opinion that her role as Chabili in Khusar Prasad Ka Bhoot is quite different from her earlier roles till date. “It is a big transition for me as an actress if you just compare my role in Khusar Prasad Ka Bhoot with my earlier characters in earlier films. It is totally opposite to the character I did in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Traffic signal or for that matter the character of the Haryanvi lady cop that I played in Ashwani Dheer’s One Two Three.

The best thing about my character in this film is that mostly I have got to deliver my dialogues on the louder side through my eyes”, explains Neetu. Neetu says that she preferred to be launched as one of the three girls in Garam Masala instead of waiting for a big break as a solo heroine. “I am from a film background. Priyan Sir chose to give me a break with a big banner,” goes on the charming lady, “If I had done a solo lead, I do not think anyone would have come to watch me in the film. In Garam Masala, I had two big leading men like Akshay Kumar and John Abraham to lure the audiences to the theaters. I preferred to have a safe launch like Garam Masala after having appeared as a super model in several ads including Parker, Minto, and Reliance etc. Priyan Sir had directed the Parker ad in which I had the privilege to appear alongside with Amitabh Bachchan”. Neetu asserts that her glamorous post Garam Masala image almost affected her prospects in films. She further adds, “Though I had acted in a serious role in the play Aao Saathi Sapna Dekhe directed by Swanand Kirkire who had composed the music for Parineeta, I started getting roles which needed me to appear in a bikini after Garam Masala since I had projected a glamorous image in the film. In fact the image with which I was saddled after Garam Masala actually almost affected my career prospects since there were people who even tried to scare Madhur by telling him that it was wrong on his part to cast a girl like me in a deglamorised role in his film Traffic Signal”. After having played a glamorous role in Priyadarshan’s Garam Masala, Neetu is glad that she played a deglamorised role in Madhur Bhandarkar’s film Traffic Signal, though several so called well wishers of hers advised her that it was a suicidal move on the part of a newcomer like her to take up an arty role like that. Adds Neetu, “I am glad I received accolades for my performance in Traffic Signal. I am now acting in Rahul Dholakia’s Mumbai Cutting, believe it or not, in yet another path breaking as well as deglamorised role as a housemaid, with an entirely different dimension”. Neetu admits that it was tough to play a housemaid in Mumbai Cutting. “It is for the first time that I have played the role of a housemaid in Mumbai Cutting. I have not touched make up at all throughout the film. There are two brilliant actors from the theater in the film, but they have not been cast opposite me. Even in Traffic Signal, I had to apply a tanned make up whereas in Mumbai Cutting I shunned make up to get into the skin of the character”, Neetu explains her serious approach towards her characters. Neetu is now acting in a Tamil film called Yaavarum Nalam as R. Madhavan’s wife. The actress asserts, “It is a horror thriller film backed by Reliance Adlabs and directed by Vikram from the South. It is being made in two languages - Hindi and Tamil. The Hindi version has been titled ‘Flat No 13 B’. Poonam Dhillon plays my mother in law in the film”. Neetu is playing the role of a college student in Dibankar Bannnerjee’s Oye Lucky Lucky Oye opposite Abhay Deol. “It is an out and out commercial movie from the stable of Dibankar who had made his debut with a brilliant film like Khosla Ka Ghosla. I play Abhay’s love interest in the film. I play a second year college girl. It is Abhay’s story but I play an important role since I change him in the film which was shot in Manali. Paresh Rawal is also playing a very important role in the film,” the lady adds on offers being showered on her. Neetu, who is happy that she has proved to be a good survivor in this industry considering the fact that she has made it here without the help of any God father and does not have any filmy connections to work for her, is game to do item numbers, too. “I am game to do item numbers today. Why not? Today I feel that item numbers are great because not every one can do it with finesse. Raakhee Sawant, Mallika Sherawat and Aishwarya Rai would not have been able to deliver their item numbers if they did not know dancing. Today there are instances where films which remain unsold are snapped up by distributors if an item number is added to them”, Neetu clears up the matter. Neetu asserts that she is not at all insecure considering there is stiff competition in the film industry, because she has confidence in her mettle as an actor. “I am basically a sports person and have the killing instinct because of that. The role that I did in One Two Three was offered to different actresses including Bipasha Basu and Sameera Reddy. Since I do not want to limit myself, I grabbed the role though I felt that it was a stupid role. My gamble paid off when the critics showered their praises on me for my performance in the film”, sums up Neetu.

Katrina Kaif has just returned from Egypt after shooting a song with her favourite co-star, Akshay Kumar, for the keenly awaited Singh Is Kinng.

"It's among the most beautiful countries I have visited - the pyramids, the temples and the landscape are absolutely exotic. I even enjoyed the barbecue dinner on a boat on the Nile. We shot in a number of places and I've come back with fond memories of my trip."

A Bollywood starlet who made her name going beyond the call of duty in Who Dares Wins, an Australian TV stunt show, has been accused of having sex with soldiers while on a tour to entertain troops in Afghanistan.

Tania Zaetta (above) was named in a confidential briefing paper to Australia’s Defence Minister as having slept with special forces soldiers last month at a military base in Tarin Kowt, the capital of Oruzgan province. Pictures and a video were said to have been taken.

But Australia’s military was in retreat last night, admitting that it broke its privacy regulations by naming the actress, 37, in the confidential note intended for Joel Fitzgibbon, the Defence Minister.

The Defence Department apologised to Zaetta for the leak, and Mr Fitzgibbon said he had ordered an inquiry into how the document officially referred to as a “hot issues brief” became public.
Zaetta, who has appeared on Baywatch and Mission Implausible, a British pay-TV show, denied the allegations and said there had been little opportunity to be alone with any soldier, even if she had wanted to be.

“How does a supposed document . . . that I don’t know about get leaked in the first place that’s a little bit concerning about the security of the country,” she said.

“It’s complete lies . . . apart from being hurtful, it’s damaging to a woman’s career, to her reputation.” The Government now faces a potential compensation payout after she sought legal advice over the claims, which the document said had been made by Angry Anderson, a veteran Australian rock star and fellow tour performer.

Kevin Rudd, the Prime Minister, reluctantly commented on the scandal, which drew criticism from the opposition conservative Liberal Party over invasion of privacy. “These matters are under investigation within the Defence Department and I will leave it for that investigation to reach its own conclusions,” Mr Rudd said.

Anderson, the bald former frontman for the rock band Rose Tattoo, denied that he had made a complaint.

Another performer said the entertainers had been told that they would breach Defence Force regulations if they fraternised with the troops. “I have heard of quickies but I have never heard of anything that quick . . . a tour like that is hard work,” John Clinton, of the country rock band the Wolverines, said.

Zaetta co-hosted the 1990s television show Who Dares Wins. She has featured in several Bollywood productions including a recent Charlie’s Angels-style hit, Mr. Black, Mr. White.

Bollywood Actress Shilpa was so reluctant and scared

For a scene in the Sunny Deol-directed The Man, Shilpa Shetty had to slap her co-star Sudhanshu Pandey. And if the latter is to be believed, the actress was very reluctant to do so.

"It was an emotional scene where I was supposed to console her and she was required to slap me in a fit of rage. But Shilpa was so reluctant and scared. She had to be literally convinced to slap me to get the shot right," Sudhanshu, a singer, model and actor, said.

Sudhanshu said that he had to ultimately hold her hand and make her slap him to be more comfortable with the shot. "It was funny as she still couldn't do it. But since she had no option, she did it very lightly," he said.

The actor, who featured in Sanjay Gupta's film Dus Kahaniyaan, was in Delhi to attend the launch of an All Sports Bar.

2008 has proved to be lucky for Sudhanshu, who became a father for the second time earlier this month and also has some big banner films lined up for release.

Talking about his forthcoming projects, Sudhanshu said: "Alibaug, The Man and Singh is King are in the pipeline and I am really excited."

Sudhanshu, a former member of the music group Band of Boys, has sung in Sanjay Gupta's Alibaug, where he plays a business tycoon.

"Yes, I have sung in Alibaug. It was Sanjay [Gupta] who dragged me into it and the experience was fantastic," he said, making it clear that he would never get associated with a music band, however.

Amrita Rao, who started her Bollywood career as the girl-next-door, is creating a lot of flutter around with her all new provocative glam look. The actress justifies that she is not trying to break the image that she has created in the industry by saying that ‘a girl next door can also be hot and sexy’.

“I’m not trying to desperately do something different that would make me change the image that I have built. I’m very happy if people in the industry find me a sweet girl-next-door,” she says.
She finds nothing wrong when the same girl-next-door goes through a glam makeover and starts flirting with guys in a pub. Suddenly, the girl-next-door which is the uber chic version of the Bharatiya Nari has gone through a sea change in definition.

“But you have to understand that this girl is not predictable. She can be hot and sexy too, she can be the life of a party and can also flirt with boys,” Amrita says.

And what does Amrita have to say about her new look in the forthcoming film Shortkut in which she is provocatively soaking the sun on a sandy beach?

“See, I have worn sexy clothes before too in films like Ab Ke Baras, Ishq Vishk, Main Hoon Na. The new thing that I have done is the way I have been acting like in My Name is Anthony Gonsalves in which I could subtly be seductive through my eyes and expressions. In Shortkut too, I have a role that demands me to be glamourous and attractive,” Amrita explains.

Now an established actress, Amrita started her career as a model and featured in several commercials. Having no well wishers in Bollywood, Amrita says she has been lucky to have got big movie offers.

“It’s difficult to establish yourself in our industry if you do not know someone. Only a few from the outside can barge into the industry. I think I have been very lucky,” she says.
She admits that there are very few platforms that enable an actor to get noticed.

“The problem is that the platforms from where you can get spotted by someone from our film fraternity are few. Either you have to be a model doing ads or you have to win a beauty pageant and none of these are a cakewalk,” she said.

This svelte actress currently has three films in her kitty — the Shyam Benegal
directed Mahadev Ka Sajjanpur, Harman Baweja starrer Victory and Anil Kapoor’s Shortkut and says she has no complaints about how the industry has treated her so far.

“I don’t have any complaints because I think I have got some really nice opportunities and people have been very nice with me,” she says, adding, “Acting was something I always secretly desired to do and I’m living my dream.”

The romantic at heart
Amrita, who has acted in several romantic films, says she is a very big romantic at heart and adds that it was her role in Ishq Vishq that is most closer to the real person that she is. “I’m a very sacrificing, emotional person. Playing the role of Payal in the film was like playing me in front of the screen,” she says.

Amrita says that she believes in the classic, your-love-is-destined-for-you phrase. “I’m a very romantic person but I believe that if someone is destined to be with me, nothing can take the person away,” she adds.

Sherlyn Chopra As a Moulin Rouge

Sherlyn Chopra will soon be seen in a video directed and choreographed by Remo D'souza who has choreographed several films and item songs. In the video Sherlyn will be seen in different avatars. In one she will be a 'Moulin Rouge' performer while in another she will be a typical Bollywood item girl with all the associated jhatkaas and matkaas donning a diamond encrusted bikini.

DJ Akbar Sami has remixed and reworked the track to give it a house and club touch. "The original track 'Dard' was more of a lounge track. While it was a great piece of music, it wasn't of the dance variety. The success of an album and a music video is primarily based on the popularity it enjoys at discotheques and clubs. We have reworked Sherlyn's original track to give it an international club and house feel."

The costumes have been especially designed by fashion designer Reza (of DEVDAS fame) with inputs from Sherlyn and Remo

"We worked on the look keeping in mind the music and the dance moves. Sherlyn is a great dancer and a sensual, sexy movement comes very naturally to her. Keeping her plus points in mind I designed the costumes for her, which includes a traditional sequence, a bikini sequence and also an international sequence."

Sherlyn's fans and viewers will have to wait for another month till it goes on air.

Much preparation and hard work went into the shooting of Amisha Patel’s sensuous song in Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic .

Contrary to rumours, Amisha Patel isn’t doing an item number in the film, but has a proper role, though a brief one. Apparently, she plays a girl whose match Rani Mukherjee tries to make with Saif Ali Khan .

What’s grabbing the eyeballs before the film’s release is the sexy song “Lazy Lamhe” featuring Amisha in a yellow bikini designed by Manish Malhotra . However, shooting the song wasn’t a cakewalk for both Amisha and director Kunal Kohli .

The song was shot at a resort in Alibaug. Kohli initially planned to wrap the song within eight days. But it eventually took longer than that.

The number was set in and around a swimming pool. Since a part of the song shows Amisha going underwater, the actress had to train before doing the scenes. Also, Kohli got a special underwater camera to shoot those sequences.

However, when Amisha began to shoot, she developed fever because of repeatedly going into cold water in the month of January. Then, Kohli found a way out. He planned to heat up the pool’s water before shooting.

This doubled the task of the production team but the result was eventually achieved.

Finally, the song that was meant to be shot in 8 days was canned in two week’s time.

Katrina Kaif’s skirt to raise

It has become somewhat customary for Katrina Kaif’s skirt to raise a few hackles.

We all know of the controversy that Katrina Kaif unwillingly created when she went to the holy Sufi shrine at Ajmer in a short skirt to shoot a scene for Vipul Shah’s film Namastey London . That controversy was resolved only after Shah decided to delete the sequence altogether from the film.

Now, an almost similar incident reportedly happened while shooting Shah’s home production Singh Is Kinng in Egypt.

Katrina was to shoot against the backdrop of the great pyramids along with co-star Akshay Kumar but the local police reportedly arrived at the scene and objected to Katrina’s outfit that exposed her bare legs.

Egypt is predominantly a Muslim nation and revealing outfits are not accepted in public places there.

Reports say director Anees Bazmee , who was determined to shoot at the pyramids, managed to get the matter resolved with the help of others.

And thankfully another skirt controversy was successfully skirted.

Since I’m very particular about my fitness levels, I spend a lot of time at the gym. Normally, I try to make it about five times a week. My workout regimen includes cardio and weights that are decided by my personal instructor.

Needless to say, what I’ve achieved vis-a-vis my toned body is all thanks to a lot of hard work.

Although I know yoga helps a great deal, it’s not for me, I don’t have the patience for it. Even when it comes to meditation, I just can’t concentrate – my mind wanders all over the world... Fortunately, I’ve always been skinny, but I’ve still had to be very particular because you can’t achieve a good, healthy and a toned look without the help of exercises and a good diet.

My daily diet

I don’t believe in starving myself, so I have a regular diet. But, I do make sure what I eat is cooked in olive oil that’s low in calories. As a kid, I had a major sweet tooth, but now, I have sweets only once in a while. Ditto for pizzas and burgers. For breakfast, I have either poha or toast and egg or dalia, and my meals later in the day comprise dal, roti, rice and sabzi. And, yes, lots of salads too. In fact, I have a weakness for salads.

My happiness quotient

The one thing that keeps me happy is having my family around me. Couple this with the feeling of being fit and active and being able to work hard towards my goals in life. What also gives me a high is my reading, watching movies and cooking which is a great stress buster for me.

What’s it like to play Dhoni’s girlfriend in a leading battery commercial?
Oh great! After working with him, I realised that he is a better actor than a cricketer (laughs)! I even told him that ‘It doesn’t seem like you are India skipper, Dhoni.’ I was bowled over when he responded by saying, ‘I am not Dhoni; I’m his dummy!’ In fact, Ishant Sharma was also part of the commercial and he, too, is extremely sweet.

Will it be a sixer if the ODI skipper proposes to you?
No way. It’s good to watch him play on the field. Off it, he is so caught up with endorsing that there won’t be any time left for me (laughs).

Will you be a taker for Dhoni the model or Dhoni the cricketer?
Dhoni, the model, of course.

And do you know which team he’s part of in the IPL?
Is it Chennai? I am not too sure! Can’t see beyond Sourav in cricket.

You were playing the lead in Meghbalika. But you seem to have disappeared from the small screen after that...
I enjoyed playing Shalmoli’s role in Meghbalika. I had even cut down on print ads and commercials during that period. But after three years, I thought I would shift to Mumbai, where my family was. Besides, there was nothing much to do in Tollywood. Frankly speaking, Bengali movies are not my cup of tea. Offers did come from Ravi Ojha, for his megaserial Mohona, and from Agnidev Chatterjee, but those weren’t meaty enough.

Do you feel then that Bengali movies are not up to the mark?
It’s not that. Bengali films are not for me. I want to work with Riingo though. I feel he is a promising director.

People say it’s tough in Mumbai...
It’s tough everywhere. But there are plenty of opportunities in Mumbai. Even an extra in a
commercial, draws nearly Rs 25,000 there. I’ve had to turn down many offers because I believe in quality not quantity.

Why have you declined offers in Mumbai so early in your career?
I said no to an ad with SRK for a leading computer company because it was a blink-and-miss role. I regret having done a hair oil ad with Deepika Padukone, because all I had was one dialogue and a good frame. I also opted out of a hair removing cream ad which had Kareena Kapoor. Insignificant work hinders careergraph. You know, I got an offer to feature in Sonu Niggaam’s music video but I preferred not to take it because I’d have to sport a costume similar to Zeenat Aman’s in Satyam Shivam Sundaram. I’m not so insecure that I’ll say yes to anything that comes my way. I’ve even said no to big screen offers.

What kind of roles were you offered?
Ram Gopal Varma’s assistant is making a film, for which he approached me. But I had to wear a bikini for one of the scenes and I declined. Samar Khan requested me to do an item number for his film Shaurya, but I don’t want to start my career being an item girl. Rozza did the number. I want to be like Rani Mukerji or Kajol not Mallika Sherawat. I declined a lead role in a megaserial called Meri Devrani as it was a three-year contract. I don’t want to bind myself in a bahu’s role for that long!

Are you flaunting a full kitty now?
By God’s grace, yes. I will be playing a lead role in a Tamil film. Other than that, I have been shortlisted by directors like Shivam Nayar and Rajat Kapoor for untitled big screen projects. I’m keeping my fingers crossed! And thanks to Mumbai models who are not very comfortable wearing saris, I’m doing a lot of sari ads! I am also the brand ambassador of a leading jewellery brand. So, all’s well on the workfront as of now.

You’re sizzling in this new avtar. What brought about the transition?

There’s no transition. It’s just a look I sport for a song in Anil Kapoor’s Shortkut. And the credit goes to Anil, Manish Malhotra who’s styled my look, and Bosco-Ceasar who’ve choreographed the song. As an actress, I’m just their canvas.

Were you apprehensive about carrying off such a look?

Not at all. I think every girl has a sensuous side. In fact, sensuality completes a woman. But for me sensuality is incomplete without a woman’s grace and dignity. As long as I am comfortable, I can carry off any look.

Is it a conscious effort to move away from your girl-next-door image?

No, nothing of that sort. It’s just that as an actress I get to play and discover many facets to my personality. And they are just extensions of who I am or I can be, but not the real me. Once the arclights turn off and I hear pack up... I’m back to being myself, a girl-next-door. I’m not interested in earning a new sexy image.

From the demure Poonam in Vivaah to the glam diva in Shortkut, you’re convincing...

Poonam was Sooraj Barjatya’s conviction and this look is Manish’s vision. As an actress, I always give every role my best. Fortunately my face can accommodate these makeovers and the rest is all God’s grace.

What’s your take on the size zero syndrome in Bollywood...

Almost everyone seems to be getting paranoid about their weight. It’s quite unfortunate since a lot of young kids try to ape such celebrities without realising the consequences. The aim should be to stay fit and healthy, and not attain a size zero.

Three big films coming up, you must be excited about 2008?

Absolutely! A village girl in Mr Shyam Benegal’s Mahadev, a glam–diva in Anil Kapoor’s Shortkut, and a medical student in Ajit Pal’s Victory, it’s like living three different lives in one year!

How come a hot single girl like you has no man in your life?

I am sure my man is pretty much on this planet and I am waiting for that beautiful moment when our journeys become one.

It’s a question Mandira Bedi has been asked ever since IPL bowled us over: Why’s she missing in action? “I’m watching all the games and am staying on in Kolkata just to catch the match.

But it’s a pity that we kept talking about the wedding of cricket and entertainment, and now, when it’s happened, I’m not part of the baraat! I would have loved to be a part of it,” she smiles, as we note a hint of disappointment.

“But I’m grateful for what the channel has given me. Before 2003, I was a one-dimensional person, doing only TV and theatre. The World Cup made me an anchor and connected me to the game. I learnt a lot on the job. I suddenly found myself in the midst of technical discussions, sitting among experts. There’s been a lot of growth since then,” confesses the cricket buff, whose current favourite is Shane Warne.

“In India, everyone is very possessive about cricket. It’s very male-dominated. Many people were outraged at the start of the 2003 World Cup but I managed to win some of them over,” smiles the animated anchor-actor, letting us in on a little-known dimension of hers — “I’m a personality of extremes. When I’m happy, I can chew off someone’s ear chattering, and when I’m sad, I retreat into a shell.” And when she starts talking about her forthcoming film Meerabai Not Out, we can see what she means! The role is clearly close to her heart. “If I saw anyone else playing the role of Meera Achrekar, I’d say, now that’s a role I’d love to play! The only thing Meera and I have in common is cricket. There’s a reference to me in the film, where someone tells Meera, ‘Yeh toh Mandir Bedi lagti hai!’ And she retorts, ‘I don’t look like her, she looks like me. And I wear full clothes!’” Mandy says, breaking into a chuckle.

The joke is not lost on us, as we ask her about the bold shoot she did for a men’s magazine recently. “My parents were very disturbed by it.

I have an imaginary list of things in my head, and I tick them as I go along. This is something that was there on my list, which I’ve ticked off, never to do again. I’ve recently done a swimsuit shoot for a health magazine, and shared the images with my parents before they were published,” says the fitness freak who’s all for size zero, provided it’s not at the cost of her health.

Coming back to her films, Mandira says, “Kumble has a guest appearance in Meerabai..., which will release shortly after the IPL. My next movie is titled Mumbai Chakachak.” We ask her if she’ll be seen in a Raj Kaushal film, and she quips, “There was a lot of friction when we worked together in the past, and so we’ve decided not to bring our professional relationship home. You know, some husbands and wives have a pact that they’ll never work together... It’s safer!”

But Mandira ‘Shanti’ Bedi is not known for playing safe — she talked cricket in noodlestraps, refused to be part of “regressive” serials and dared to don any hat that caught her fancy. Here’s hoping that the imaginary to-do list in her pretty little head only grows longer.

It's finally been decided that the two wannabes superstars selected from this reality show will work in Ekta-Balajee's 70-crore rupee project directed by Apoorva Lakhia.

Says Ekta, "The film will be called Generation Next. And it will feature the two talents from our show Kissko Milega Bollywood…who we feel are going to be the superstars of tomorrow.

"We've just done one shot together. The rest has been shot with the two of us separately. It's strange people have noticed so much chemistry between us when we aren't even together in the ad.

My wife Sarita loves the ad. She thinks Vidya is better than me in the ad.But then she's my harshest critic. All three of us Sarita, Vedant and I adore Vidya."

Vidya has done ads prior to her acting career. This is her first ad post-stardom.

She thoroughly enjoyed doing this new yet old experience. "Years ago I was supposed to do Tamil film with Maddy. Then we were also supposed to do a Deepa Mehta film together.

I think Maddy and I were destined to special things in limited space. Both of us had cameos in Mani Ratnam's Guru. People still talk about our romantic scene in the rain (including a kiss).

Now the Airtel ads. It's unbelievable how much chemistry people have seen between us in those few seconds. I always say it's the moments that make a romance.

In case you've been wondering why Koena Mitra was missing from the promos of the film "Anamika", here's why - she is angry about her voice being dubbed by someone else and also claims that her role was left "incomplete".

"Why should my voice be dubbed when other actresses who can't even speak Hindi can speak in their own voice?" Koena told IANS. The film stars Minissha Lamba and Dino Morea in the lead roles.

Says Koena: "If the producers have been saying that I kept away because I was the mystery element in the film then they're not telling the truth. I chose not to promote the film because they dubbed my voice without even asking me.

"Not only that, my role is incomplete. We were supposed to shoot some more scenes to justify the character. They took my bulk dates and never shot those scenes."

"I was very happy with the way my character had been written. I was given to understand it'd be something like Kajol in 'Gupt' and Priyanka Chopra in 'Aitraaz'. But I didn't get any of the projection that those actresses did in the publicity. And audiences had no clue why I was a killer beyond one passing dialogue. And by covering my face with a mask on the posters they gave away the suspense."

Koena is most certainly upset. "Throughout the pre-release they kept calling and saying, 'You must see the way you've performed'. Arrey, why were they taking credit for the way I performed? They should've been more concerned with what they promised and didn't deliver."

According to Koena she had to request for the smallest of requirements. "I've never had this experience before. Normally, these are things that are taken care of automatically. I was really pissed off. That's why I didn't attend any of their press events or even the music release."

She takes a deep breath. "Suddenly one day someone from the production called and said my voice had been dubbed. Without my consent! I was shocked. I called to ask why they did this to me. Normally you need a letter of consent before doing something like this...I feel it was totally uncalled for.

"Sad, because it was a great role and the director Anant Mahadevan worked really hard on my look and character."

"I didn't want to talk about all this. But from now on I'll have everything in writing. I did the film because of Dharam Oberoi who was at that time with Sanjay Gupta. Because of them I didn't even discuss money. But later my cheque for 'Anamika' bounced repeatedly. Till now they haven't cleared my designer's dues, the cheque bounced three times. I had to pay my designer from my own pocket. And now the producer's office has vanished. No wonder stars shy away from independent producers."

Post Om Shanti Om (OSO) how has your life changed?
All this is very new for me. My father (bandmintom champ Prakash Padukone) was also a celebrity. But we were never exposed to much media coverage. Before I went into the modeling profession I did go into my dad’s profession it was the expected thing. I played bandminton at the national level.But I realized my heart was set on modeling.Movies weren’t even in my range of vision. But after two years of modeling I started getting film offers I was only 18 then. I didn’t want to jump into anything.

What took you down south?
You mean my Kannada film Aishwarya? I am from Karnataka and it was directed by a young and talented man Indrajit Lankesh. And I was paired with a huge Kannada star Upendra.

Did you speak your own lines?

Yes I did. I learnt Kannada in school. Farah Khan had already offered me OSO. But we were to shoot a year later. So I did the Kannada film.You remind me of Aishwarya Rai.
I’d take that as a compliment. I grew up watching her. When I was in school I remember how thrilled I was when she won Miss World. Ash and Sushmita are people I’ve admired.

You’re still young. Don’t you miss doing the normal things?
I do the normal things. I’ve life away from my work. But yes, I definitely feel a lot older than girls my age.I started working and moved out of home at a very young age. I tried to work out of my home- town Bangalore. But like it or not Mumbai is the mecca for the glamour and entertainment industry.

Do you miss Bangalore?
In Mumbai I definitely miss my family. For me ordinary things like having warm food on the table or getting the car ready to leave for the day are not so easily obtainable. Like all girls I’d like to see my parents when I wake up in the morning. That isn’t possible when you’re living alone.

Is Mumbai a lonely city?
No definitely not. I’ve lots of friends in Bombay. And I haven’t changed for them, nor they for me.Yes, certain people around me have changed. But people who are really important to me, that’s my parents and my childhood friends are with me.One needs to have friends outside one’s profession to interact and to share one’s life with. Otherwise I’m not the party-hopping kind.

What do you and Ranbir talk about?
Well…we do know what’s going on in each other’s careers. But otherwise we try to keep cinema out of our conversation. We try not to get into one another work space.

It’s amazing but both of you started your careers in Hindi as fierce rivals in Saawariya and OSO?
That rivalry was more media-created than anything else. Comparing me with Sonam was so uncalled-for. We come from two totally space. We started differently. She assisted Mr Sanjay Bhansali. I come from the modeling world. And our debut vehicles are so different. Fortunately we were too involved with our own projects and had no time to think of each other as competition.

You started with Shah Rukh Khan as a co-star. Can it get any bigger?
I hope it does. Initially I was very nervous about working with him. But Farah and Shah Rukh made it very comfortable for me. We did readings together, we met socially so that we were comfortable when we faced the camera.He’s again someone I grew up watching. You have acquired the reputation of being extremely choosy. Yes. Every project takes up so much of your time. You’ve to be sure of what you’re doing. So often I say no because I don’t have the time. I meet every director who wants to meet me. I do consult my parents.It would be unfair to distance them from my career just because they aren’t part of the entertainment industry. But the final decision is mine.Your dad is a celebrity in his own right.Yes but nothing to do with the entertainment industry. During his time sportspersons didn’t do endorsements, advertisements. The path to jannat was not so easy yet not so tough for the model turned actor Sonal. Let’s share her bit of journey to the success-dome, forthcoming film “Jannat”, Emraan Haashmi and little more…

Q.: “Miss World Tourism” in 2005 and then films. How was the journey?
A.: Actually, the year I won the honour, offers for films started coming in my way. Amongst them were offers for “Show Biz” and “Awarapan” from Mahesh Bhatt which I let down.

After that he offered me for “Jannat”. I liked the story of the film as well as the character I was offered to portray. Then I signed contract for three films with Mahesh Bhatt.

Q.: Please tell us about your character and the film.?
A.: The name of my character in the film is Joya. She belongs to a small town but her outlook is that of twenty first century.

The most important thing about the character is that she is not weak at all. It’s accepted that being in love we start supporting the lover all the while and even at the time he attempts something wrong. But she is not a girl like that.

She raises her voice against odds even though the man behind that is her boyfriend. She is a bold character. But please, don’t take the word bold for any other meaning.

Q.: In your real life, how are you affected with your character?
A.: I am truly affected with this character. As human beings, we do learn something everyday in and out. And I guess every film will teach me new things as with each film I’ll have chance to play new characters.

As far as Joya is concerned, the character has taught me a lot. I love my family exactly the way Joya loves her family. My family is the biggest weakness I have.

Q.: You have signed a contract with Mahesh Bhatt. Does it include anything like you cannot work outside Bhatt camp?
A.: Not at all. I didn’t sign the contract under any such pressure. Recently, I have signed an unnamed film by Kumar Mangat. On the other hand, my Telugu film “Rambo” will be released in the next month.

Q.: How is your experience working with Emraan?
A.: Thankfully, it was nice working with him. Despite been so experienced, he never let me realize that I am novice in the industry. (Smiling) Fortunately, he tried playing prank with me but in vain. Probably I am much intelligent than what he thought me to be.

Q.: What was the prank about?
A.: We went to somewhere for the promotion of the film and I remember that Emraan tried to mix something to my juice. But he failed. At the same time we decided to frighten one of the unit members every night.

The best way we decided on was to fly away after giving some blank knocks at the doors. One day others tried the same idea on me and realizing it was a prank I didn’t open the door that night.

Q.: Which scene, in the movie, was the most memorable and which was the most tough to act in?
A.: The pole dancing was the toughest part for me in the film. There were few beautiful Russian pole dancers around me.

I watched them dancing and realized about how poor I was performing. But, whatever, the experience was quite memorable to me.

Q.: “Jannat” is specially accepted as a bookies’ film which is absolutely cricket-centric. How much screen space is there for Joya in the film?
A.: The film is publicized in the way that makes people think about it as bookies’ film. But the fact is the love story between Emraan and me occupies the most area of the film and cricket hardly has a part to play on. The love story between us is depicted so well that people will surely relate that to their love.

Q.: How was your reaction while you came to know that you have to act opposite Emran?
A.: (Smiling) How should be my reaction! My interest was more in the story and my character than the co-star I was going to act with.

Knowing about my character was far more important to me than to concentrate on bed scenes and kissing scenes. I am happy that I am not a showpiece in this film. And I must make clear that the film has not a single kissing and bed scene.

Better you watch the film and conclude whether the film has any kissing and intimate scene.

Q.: You are looking quite hot in the promo of the film. What’s your opinion?
A.: Everyone is telling me that I am looking very hot in the promo of the film. Let me ask you, what is the meaning of the word hot?

I am totally covered in dress in the promo. I either am in jeans and baggy short or in simple looking top. I have not shot a single scene where I am in bikini or in such a condition that I cannot watch with my family.

I was asked for both the things which I have rejected. Still, I cannot understand the reason behind people addressing me hot babe!

Q.: What would you like to say about Vishesh Films?
A.: I am grown up watching films by Vishesh Films. They not only portray their heroines beautifully but also concentrate on beautiful songs. Along with me, most of the people like their songs.

At the same time they go for very realistic subjects, too. I am feeling really lucky being a part of their film. As far as rejecting films like “Show Biz” and “Awarapan” is concerned, the stories of those films were not too appealing to me.

However, I must mention that I am quite a confused person. I take time deciding on any matter but I guess there is some secret power that helps me making my mind up.

Q.: Leaving “Jannat”, what would be the other film, from the Bhatt camp, which you would feel happy acting in?
A.: “Woh Lamhe”, without any hesitation. The film didn’t work well at the box office but it’s a different issue altogether. I hope Bhatt sahab will consider me a chance if he goes for any such subject again.

Q.: Would you like to pose as item girl in films?
A.: I don’t think I have features like item girls. So, the question itself is quite baseless.

Nandana Sen: “It’s absurd! Mallika is beautiful and has a style of her own .How can anyone have the right to say that style is wrong? Should we all start wearing uniforms now to make everyone happy? Clothes are one of the ways in which a person expresses her or his individuality. Dictating what another individual wears is as ridiculous as a third party forbidding you, a writer, from choosing certain topics. Or me, an actor, from taking on certain roles. And if I decide to do what I choose, should my nose and ear be cut as happened today? What’s the issue with Mallika’s clothes? Here is an insight and much more from the actress herself…Q. You are in Sanjay Gupta’s Alibaug. How was it working with Sanjay?
A. I know Sanjay Gupta for long. He always used to ask me about what kind of film to cast me in. One day he called me to his office and surprised me offering the character of Nisha in his upcoming film Alibaug.

The story, he described me, was astounding and I couldn’t help accepting it. For three hours we had a group narration with other actors.

It was wonderful and Alibaug has been the most wonderful experience of my life. It’s a beautiful script and the actors I am working with in this film are fantastic. I always wanted to work with Sanjay Suri. I think he is a brilliant actor.

Again, there are Parveen Dabbas and Diya. It is really a well assembled cast for the film.

Q. Please tell us about your character in the film.
A. I am playing physiologist who is experiencing blues of her failed marriage. This character is completely different from all I have played before. People have always watched me in glamorous roles.

But Nisha, my character in this film, is little bubbly, little emotional, little serious, grounded and in a nutshell it’s a solid role in my career. It is a real life character observed and experienced by Sanjay Gupta himself.

Alibaug is really Sanjay Gupta’s life and all the characters in it represent someone in his life only.

Q. How close is the character to your heart?
A. It is very close, because it is that side of Sophie which people have never witnessed. Everybody knows that Sopie is someone who is always bubbly and very jovial but I have emotional and quite a sensitive part in my nature which, this character, reveals very well.

Q. Please tell us about the film.
A. At this stage of the film, I can tell you only that the film depicts life of a bunch of college friends. It deals with their college days showing their friendship and how close they are to one of their professors.

After that they depart and get together after ten years with different problems like failed relationships and various other problems in their lives.

Keeping all aside, they start living their life together like the way they used to during their college life. But the seriousness looms around and the story scrolls down showing how they solve their problems one after the other.

Q. Any interesting incident which you can recall that happened on the sets of Alibaug?
A. The most exciting part of the film was that we felt like a family where we never bothered about our personal characters but about the film only.

And everybody used to get involved and give feedbacks on each others’ works in a way to help each other. Another amicable aspect on the set was that all the other girls would have come in rescue of other girl facing problems regarding her outfit and all.

We had a long schedule in Goa and that was really a big bonding experience for all of us. I really loved working on Alibaug.

Only few weeks are left in its shoot and the film is tentatively getting released by July or August. I just can’t wait for it.

Q. Your character in Shaadi No.1 and Pyaar Ke Side Effects were more or less similar. What would you like to say about that?
A. The character of Dimple in Shaadi No.1 was not of an intelligent girl but Tanya, I played in Pyaar Ke Side, was an intelligent one whose goal in life was very clear to her.

It was her positive approach towards life that I liked very much about her. Nisha in Alibaug is different from these two characters. She is very strong, bitter and a bit angry, too. This is a kind of character which women will really appreciate.

Q. What other projects you are working in?
A. I am doing my first item number and that’s even with Sanjay Dutt in Sanjay Gadvi’s Kidnapped. I have always been putting down all proposals of item numbers before but I couldn’t say no to Sanjay Gadhvi.

Besides, Sanjay Dutt is also the big thing. So, how can one say no to it! Any girl saying no to this song will appear foolish. Sunidhi has sang the song very well and to be in a musical number for Sanjay Gadhvi, you know, will really be fantastic.

Apart from that I have a comedy film for a big banner which I won’t name right now, Money Hai toh Honey Hai with Govinda and a Boby Bedi film with Rishiji sharing screen space with me.

No sooner Chitrangada Singh began her filmi career with 'Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi' than she earned the biggest goodwill by being named the next Smita Patil. By then, she had just a handful of ads and a music video for Gulzar's 'Sunset Point'. But, her debut movie director Sudhir Mishra saw a great talent in her. A few months later, her next film 'Kal: Yesterday and Tomorrow', directed by Ruchi Narain, was released. Though its trailers looked hip but soon enough news broke that Chitrangada had retired from the movies. In fact, a billboard in Juhu advertised 'Kal …'but bemoaned the departure of Chitrangada Singh from the industry. She had sought

self-exile though and emerged again towards the end of 2007.

How did she come out of long hibernation? Since she has produced an heir for the Rajput husband, she could follow her stardom, it is said. In any case, the latest news is that she is back in an expensive building in Gurgaon (close to Delhi) from Mauritius, where she has been shooting her new film 'Sorry Bhai' with director Onir. Incidentally, the media folk has found her slender and fine-boned now though shy as usual to talk too high of herself.

Isn't Chitrangada a sort of reminder to a jaded generation of the atavistic punch of beauty, one wonders! About her comeback Chitrangda says, " Onir came to Delhi. I read his script and signed within an hour." Regarding her exile just on the eve of release of her 'Kal', she says, "At that point the people I were working with, for 'Kal', I had differences of opinions with them. Then when I didn't participate in the publicity, people started saying that my husband was torturing me. I decided to pack up."
She thought its better than creating a type of snowball. She did this in spite of the fact that Vishal Bhardwaj and Ashutosh Gowarikar had offered her roles but she quit. Scotching all reports about her husband's torture, Chitrangada says that she has known her much-maligned husband Jyoti Randhawa since she was 14. Like her husband Randhawa who hails from an army family of Meerut and was her elder brother Digvijay's friend. This is to recall that Jyoti Randhawa currently ranks India's top golfer. She adds that she was already married when she went to audition for Hazaaron ….. Later, she did 'Kal'. She says," I am back now. It should be clear that Jyoti (Randhawa ) had nothing to do with my decision. However, Chitrangada admits that she was quite star-struck in Bollywood. She says, "There's insecurity. There are thousands trying for the same prize." The situation changed for her as Onir says that he had thought of her even before he knew she was coming back. About his movie, Onir says that in his romantic comedy 'Sorry Bhai' he has cast her opposite Sanjay Suri and Sharman Joshi. She has earned enough goodwill from her directors.
Her first director Mishra says, "I don't think she realises her own capacities. She has incredible emotional range, and in a soft sort of way, without any self-congratulation. She can go as far as you can take her." In October, he begins shooting his version of 'Devdas'. She plays Chandramukhi. "When she quit I too had hoped that she wouldn't. If she had stayed what movie is it that she was supposed to have done?" demands Mishra. But in the short time she has been away, the industry has made marked shifts that make a Chitrangada vital for the industry. If she was not here she would have to be invented, he adds. Her current director isn't much far in praising her . Onir says, "I decided to make her character a film buff. When we were doing her 'house' for 'Sorry Bhai', I put all my DVDs on her shelves."

Incidentally, there has been the buzz that she was offered a role in Aamir Khan's 'Delhi Belly' opposite none other than the young and handsome Ranbir Kapoor and that she was just awaiting the script. It is said that the director of Aamir's venture had recommended her for the movie as she had worked with Deo in an ad film. However, the latest news is that Chitrangada has denied reports of working in Aamir's project. Actually, in a recent Delhi meeting she reiterated that she isn't working in Aamir's project. She says that she has opted out of the Aamir's 'Delhi Belly' for professional reasons. She says, "I am not doing the film. There were some differences on the script." She also adds that the three hero project 'Delhi Belly' had nothing much to offer to her, as she was only interested in 'performance oriented roles'. But , there seems to be some personal reason too behind this non-acceptance of Aamir's offer. Industry sources say that she has also objected to a few scenes in the movie.

''Above all, the producer should have taken care of that I did not suffer. But I had to!'' Rakhi Sawant was conspicuously absent at the press meet.

However, film's director Shakir Shaikh confirmed that Sambhavna had been signed first for the song 'Ruk zara Mumbai ke bhai'.

''But when Rakhi was signed for another song, she liked this song and we shot it on her which upset Sambhavna.'' Production Executive of 'Mudrank' Rakesh Sabharwal added, ''Rakhi liked the song meant to be picturised on Sambhavna and insisted to shoot for the song herself.''

When asked why they had agreed to it and subjected Sambhavna to injustice, Sabharwal replied, ''When we have a bigger artiste, we have to compromise.

''Even Rakesh Roshan had to depend on Rakhi,'' he said, referring to her song 'Dekhta hai tu kya' in Roshan's home production 'Krazzy 4'.

Sabharwal said, ''Rakhi also knows that she has snatched Sambhavna's song. That is why she's not reacting. In fact, she is not coming to any event organised for the film. I understand she is a busy star but she can't be busy always.''

Sambhavna Seth also insisted that she was a better dancer than Rakhi, a view which was endorsed by Sabharwal. ''Sambhavna has done better than Rakhi in the song 'Give me money, money, Touch me honey, honey'.''

Sanjay Gupta threw a grand bash to announce the launch of his next film, Acid Factory, over the weekend. Directed by Suparn Verma (of Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena fame), the film stars Fardeen Khan, Aftab Shivdasani, Dino Morea, Manoj Bajpai, Danny Denzongpa and Irrfan Khan.

But if you thought that Gupta only specialises in dark, action-packed thrillers, you are in for a surprise. He is all set to change gears and make a film based on noted author Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni's novel Vine of Desire.

“I am planning to make a film on Vine of Desire and Pooja Bhatt will be directing it,” said Gupta. “It's a very emotional story based on the life of two half-sisters. The film is now in pre-production, so we haven't finalised the cast. It will go on the floors by the end of this year.”

Gupta also has a light-hearted film up his sleeve. The script of Milte Hai has been written by Meghna Gulzar. “Milte Hai is a romantic comedy. It is also in pre-production and should start rolling in a couple of months”, he said.

It's hard when you're addicted to something and that is the very thing you're made to give up. This is what happened to the 'Dil Dosti Etc' girl Nikita Anand, when she was diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

The ex-Miss India is a fitness freak and loves to jog. So when she was diagnosed with the disorder thatweakens the muscles and causes pain in the ankle, Nikita was devastated. "Jogging is like breathing to me. It is the one activity that makes me feel alive. I can't run now and that's making me feel blue," she laments.

For Nikita, a wafer-thin look isn't attractive at all. She believes in eating well and staying toned and not judging attractiveness on how thin a person is. "It's more about how fit you are in body and mind than about how thin you are. It's about staying healthy. Jogging not only made me healthier but also relieved the stresses of everyday grind," reveals Nikita.

Since the actress has been asked to stay away from jogging, the health enthusiast that she is, Nikita has merely replaced jogging with exercises like weight training and spinning among others. She has also decided to channel more energies into her first love – acting. "It comes as naturally to me as breathing. In fact, I find it better than jogging," she says.

Sexy Dia Mirza is a item girl for Mithun flick

During his heydays, Mithun Chakraborty would have never imagined that some other dancer would ever be roped in to perform on an item number for a flick where he would be the lead protagonist. However, that has now happened with his upcoming film ZINDAGI TERE NAAM which has it's USP as his pairing with Ranjeeta.

Since the film has these veteran actors in the main leads with Priyanka Mehra and Aseem Ali Khan as the younger couple, its director Ashu Trikha has roped in Dia Mirza as an item girl. In the film, she gyrates to a track titled 'Main Soni Hoon' which has been put to tune by Sajid-Wajid and written by Jalees Sherwani.

Incidentally Ashu and Dia go back a long way. The film maker had made his debut with Arjun Rampal starrer DEEWANAPAN which starred Dia as the leading lady. It was only her second film after REHNNA HAI TERRE DIL MEIN. Though Ashu didn't cast her in Neha Dhupia's double role starrer SHEESHA, he went back to her with ALAG which starred Akshay Kapoor in the lead.

While the fact remains that none of these films have made much moolah at the box office, Ashu and Dia have continued to stick to each other's side and keep their professional relationship floating with ZINDAGI TERE NAAM.

Gul Panag is disappointed with the way a major section of media operates today. As per her, in their quest for finding 'news bytes', they sometimes have a question worded in a clever manner, hence leading to celebrities coming up with comments which may lead to a controversy in the making.

"Seriously, so many times it happens that you are asked a question for which you are required to answer in the spur of a moment", says Gul who would soon be seen in SUMMER 2007, "You may say but only a part of your reply may make a headline which may give an altogether different context. Soon, you find a controversy building up and everyone appears to be lapping it up with glee."

But then so many tabloids and publications are only thriving on such quotes and bytes. They need something for running the show, isn't it?

"And that's exactly the sad point in the entire affair", Gul says with an exasperated tone, "Earlier there was a tabloid or two that used to run gossip columns but today the scene is entirely different. So many respected publication houses have started getting into tabloid journalism which is disappointing to the say the least. Come on, where is the real news?"

"Of course celebrities are talked about and would be talked about; there is nothing wrong in that", replies Gul when questioned about the role of media in bringing commoners closer with the world of glitz and glamour, "However, I believe that there should be something worthwhile at least. What's the point of being talked about for trivial issues or day to day stuff which only qualifies as 'business as usual'. It all appears pretty desperate to say the least."

The hunt for the female lead opposite Shah Rukh in Aditya Chopra’s c has ended. He has cast a Bangalore girl opposite SRK. Her name is Anushka Sharma.

Anushka is not 16, as reported by some TV channels. She is 21, and is a model. Says an insider, “She can be described as cute, rather than gorgeous. She has not been selected purely because of her looks. The director was impressed with her histrionics.”
